ELM PLAYLOT: Beginning in 2008 Pogo Park began transforming Elm Playlot, a half-acre “pocket park” that lies in the heart of the Iron Triangle neighborhood. All of the elements in the park today were planned, designed, and built by community residents: disc swings, a trike path, sandboxes, a teepee, a stick hut, a fort, custom-made benches, a zip-line, a tot-lot with a mountain stream, water fountains, a ball wall, a community garden, and a park office with a meeting room, bathrooms, and eating facilities. Elm Playlot provides enriched activities through weekly program offerings and a “hosted” play model. Pogo Park offers stimulating activities and dynamic programs with the help of community partners and adult staff Tuesday thru Saturday (in the summer) and Tuesday thru Friday during the school year, free of charge and on a drop-in basis. Drop in activities tetherball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, ping pong, swinging, running, dancing, climbing, wrestling, balancing, boxing, jumping, riding a bike, scooter or skateboard, arts & crafts, chess, puzzles, drawing, painting, sewing, and building, as well as daily Zumba for adults and nature-inspired classes for children. HARBOUR-8 PARK:

Harbour-8 Park (2.0 acres) sits on a two-block section of the Richmond Greenway, a three-mile bike and walking trail that runs through the city’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. Ideally located, Harbour-8 Park is located at the start of the Yellow Brick Road® and is just two blocks from five schools serving 2,500 students. To develop a vision for Harbour-8 Park, Pogo Park’s CDT created a life-sized, three-dimensional mock-up of their proposed design onsite. Pogo Park’s 12-member CDT collaborated with a licensed team of architects, engineers, and designers to turn the CDT’s original vision for Harbour-8 Park into a permitted set of construction documents. Pogo Park partnered with the City of Richmond to secure an $8.5 million “Prop 68” grant from the California State Parks and Recreation Department to build Harbour-8 Park according to the community’s vision. The park’s centerpiece, Harbour Hall, is a stunning, hand-crafted community hall that will be used by the public for classes, voting, meetings, performing arts, weddings, memorials, and other celebrations for decades to come. Scheduled to open in 2025, Harbour Hall is an architectural jewel that will become a Richmond landmark. In addition to Harbour Hall, Harbour-8 Park features a BBQ/picnic area, children’s play area, zip line, tot lot, four hand-crafted entry gates, and an architectural metal perimeter fence for protection. Pogo Park secured a $10 million grant from California’s Strategic Growth Council to transform Harbour-8 Park into Contra Costa County’s first Community Resilience Center (CRC). Harbour Hall CRC will provide backup power, water, food, and communication to residents during emergencies. The CRC grant will also fund the design and construction of a commercial kitchen, green stormwater landscaping, and an Information Station.
